Milky and Ian Hutchinson My MGP

‘MY MGP’ – STREAMING NOW

For 100 years, the Manx Grand Prix has been the proving ground for rising talent and has seen some of motorcycling’s biggest names take part: Duke, Fogarty, Hislop, Dunlop… all names to have started out at the ‘Manx’. In a new series exclusive to the MGP Official YouTube channel, a selection of competitors from the event’s modern era reflect on how the Manx Grand Prix helped shape their career.

With 17 victories between them, Ian Hutchinson, Jason Griffiths, Ryan Farquhar and Richard ‘Milky’ Quayle are just some of the names to have cut their teeth at the Manx Grand Prix and gone on to achieve great success in the wider world of motorcycling.

For ‘Milky’, 3 Manx Grand Prix race wins were followed by victory in the 2002 Lightweight 400cc TT Race, becoming one of only three Manxmen to win a solo race and still the most recent. Nowadays he is one of the TT’s most recognised and loved characters with an infectious enthusiasm that he channels into his role as TT Rider Liaison Officer, training the TT Newcomers as they look to take on one of motorsport's greatest challenges.

Jason Griffiths won the Newcomers’ Senior Race when he made his first appearance at the Manx Grand Prix in 1991. From there it was straight on to the TT, and while he never made it to the top of the podium, he would go on to take 13 podiums across a period defined by TT icons such as Hislop, Dunlop, McCallen, Moodie, Jefferies and Archibald. Since retiring from competition, Jason has gone on to become Racing Manager for Pirelli UK, offering invaluable assistance to hundreds of racers at the TT and across the British championships.

A 3-time TT winner and the most successful rider in the history of the Irish National race scene, Ryan Farquhar is another to have taken a first Mountain Course victory in a Manx Grand Prix Newcomers’ Race. A Senior Manx Grand Prix winner in his second year, Ryan would go on to become one of the most successful road racers in history before becoming a key figure in the establishment of the popular Supertwin class of racing.

Arrived… Raced... Won. Ian Hutchinson’s Manx Grand Prix career was very short, very sharp, but very sweet, racing in only the 2003 Newcomers Senior Race – he won. 16 TT race victories have followed and to this day he remains the only man to ever win five races in a single week.
