DAVIES RETURN TO MGP

DAVIES MOTORSPORT RETURN WITH NEW VENTURE FOR 2023

Reigning Classic Senior champions, Davies Motorsport, will return for another assault at the Manx Grand Prix later this month and will also contest the RST Classic Superbike Race for the first time.

The Carole Nash Classic Senior Race will see Michael Rutter and Dominic Herbertson line up on a pair of Yamaha TX500, with Mike Browne on-board a newly-developed Yamaha YZF750 for the final Classic Superbike Race.

The team, owned by Burton upon Trent businessman John Davies and run by nephew Colin Davies, a former mechanic to 1993 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz, have been regular competitors at the Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix with a fleet of immaculately prepared bikes.

Last year saw the team campaign the Yamaha TX500 for the first time and with Lee Johnston on board, they won the 2022 Classic Senior Race by just over 8-seconds. Johnston set the fastest lap of the race at 111.029mph and with another year’s development for the powerful 8-valve machine, it should be even stronger this time around.

With Rutter and Herbertson signed up to ride for them, the team have two riders more than capable of repeating Johnston’s victory, with Rutter having previously lapped at more than 109mph in the class when riding the Ripley Land Racing Seeley – he makes his debut this year for Davies Motorsport.

Herbertson, meanwhile, has ridden for the team since 2017 taking first and third in the Classic Junior Races in 2018 and 2019 respectively, whilst he lapped at 108.870mph on the Yamaha TX500 in last year’s Classic Senior Race, running in a comfortable third-place before retiring on the final lap.

Herbertson has ridden for the team since 2017 taking 1st & 3rd in the Classic Junior Races in 2018 & 2019 respectively

In addition to the Classic Senior Race, Davies Motorsport have expanded their effort this year to also include the four-lap Classic Superbike Race with Browne on board their new Yamaha YZF750.

Having already conquered the Junior and Senior Races, the team will now have high hopes of doing the same in the four-lap Superbike Race, particularly with a rider of the calibre of Browne on board.

The 4-lap Carole Nash Classic Senior Manx Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at 12:45 on Saturday 26th August, and the 4-lap RST Classic Superbike Manx Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at 14:15 on Monday 28th August.
