If you travel to the Isle of Man by sea, you'll have the option of coming as a foot passenger or bringing your bike, car or van. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company operates ferry services from Heysham, Liverpool, Dublin and Belfast — with extra sailings during the Manx Grand Prix. You'll dock at the Sea Terminal at the southern end of Douglas promenade, within walking distance of many hotels and guesthouses. There's a taxi rank outside and bus stops close by. If you've hired a car, drop-offs can be arranged with your hire company. The Manx Grand Prix is exceptionally busy, so book car hire and transfers well in advance.

The Isle of Man has great air links with many major airports, making travelling by air quick and convenient. Most airlines operate daily flights, with extra flights during the Manx Grand Prix period. You'll land at Ronaldsway Airport in the south of the Island. A frequent bus service stops outside the terminal — north to Douglas or south to Port Erin via Castletown and Port St Mary — every 20 minutes until the airport closes. You can also hire a car or pre-book a taxi from the many firms on the Island. Book car hire and transfers well in advance.

No matter where you're from, if you're travelling to the Isle of Man you should have some form of insurance.

The Isle of Man and the UK have a reciprocal healthcare agreement, ensuring urgent healthcare for visitors (excluding prescription and dental charges). However, repatriation has never been included. All UK residents should ensure they have adequate insurance for repatriation, which can range from the cost of a ferry ticket to the hire of a private Air Ambulance and be extremely costly.

If you're travelling from outside the UK you are responsible for your own healthcare costs and must arrange full healthcare cover for your stay. Take out adequate insurance for both medical treatment and repatriation. If you are uninsured, the Isle of Man Government cannot assist and you can expect to pay the full cost of treatment and travel home, which can run into tens of thousands of pounds. The Isle of Man is not part of the EU/EEA, where the EHIC scheme operates, so EU/EEA residents also require appropriate insurance.

Costs depend on the distance of the journey, whether an Air Ambulance is required, the specialist equipment and medical staff needed, and the nature of your condition. Repatriation by Air Ambulance can reach £5,000 just for the Isle of Man to the UK, and considerably more to other countries. Take out adequate cover and make your specific needs clear to your insurer before travelling.

An extensive bus network serves the whole Island, including Ronaldsway Airport and the Sea Terminal in Douglas. A late-night service also operates from Douglas, serving many towns and villages — the sure and safe way home after a full day on the hedges or the nightly festivities. The Island boasts three heritage railways (with seasonal timetables) that transport you in style, powered by steam and electricity. On race days, fans can use the Electric Mountain Railway to watch the action up on the Mountain — trams to the Bungalow leave regularly from Laxey Station.
