Two unofficial 120mph laps recorded as Manx Grand Prix qualifying continues

Despite changeable weather the second, third and fourth qualifying sessions for the Manx Grand Prix have now all taken place as the frontrunners have begun to emerge.

Scotsman Johnny Stewart looks like the man to beat come the first race day on Saturday as he has topped each session and recorded two 120mph laps so far this week.

The newcomer class of 2026 have also become more familiar with the course as they continue to learn the course.


Tuesday

After Monday's session was cancelled the second qualifying session for the 2026 Manx Grand Prix got underway on Tuesday evening.

Supersport machines were able to get out on circuit for the second qualifying session as riders in the Supersport and Senior races looked to get laps under their belt.

Unfortunately due to a red flag the session was stopped early but the top 13 riders were able to get a lap in.

Prior to the red flag it was once again the flying Scotsman Johnny Stewart at the top of the time sheets setting a lap of 117.795.

His lap was the fastest time of the week as he improved on Sunday’s time by seven seconds.

Andrew Farrell also entered the 117mph club with a lap of 117.507 as he notched the second fastest time of the week.

Last year’s fastest newcomer, Eddy Wormald, has showed no signs of slowing down in his second year as he set a 115.27mph lap while 20-year-old Lee Hara, also in his second year, clocked the fourth fastest time with a 114.555mph lap.

Four more men lapped over 114mph with Liam Chawke and Graham Mcaleese setting laps of 114.382 and 114.156 respectively.

Last year’s second place man in the Senior race, Chris Cook, set a time of 114.121 while lap record holder for the former Supertwin race Harley Rushton finished with a lap of 114.09mph.

Second year man Brandon Kavanagh set his fastest lap of the week with an average speed of 112.785mph with Owan Monaghan just one second behind with a best lap of 112.651mph.

The final two riders to cross the line were Mark Jackson with a lap at 111.953 and Radley Hughes with a lap of 111.705mph.


Wednesday

Rain cancelled the Wednesday evening session but riders were able to get out on track using the afternoon contingency session.

American Aaron West was also able to complete his guided newcomers lap behind Richard ‘Milky’ Quayle meaning his debut Manx Grand Prix can now begin.

Sportbike and Junior Qualifying

In the Sportbike class Johnny Stewart once again set the pace from the front.

The Scotsman notched a lap of 114.997mph as he continues to look like the rider to beat at this year’s Manx Grand Prix.

Andrew Farrell clocked the second fastest lap with a 113.465mph, 16 second behind Johnny Stewart.

Three riders all recorded laps over 112mph, Liam Chawke finished with a best lap of 112.982mph while last year’s best newcomer, Eddy Wormald, followed closely behind at 112.805mph.

Dan Sayle joined Chawke and Wormald in the 112mph club with a best lap of 112.039mph.

Dungannon man, Kevin Lavery, continued his red hot pace as his lap of 109.064mph was good enough for eighth place overall and fastest newcomer honours.

Kyle Casement recorded a lap of 107.639 for the second fastest newcomer while Illiam Quayle, the son of the last Manx TT winner Milky Quayle, notched a lap of 107.232.

Supersport and Senior Qualifying

On top of his Supersport machine Johnny Stewart recorded an unofficial lap of 120.36mph which if done in a race would secure the 36th and final place in the Tommy Club.

Andrew Farrell once again took the second fastest lap of the session with an average speed of 117.578.

Liam Chawke rounded out the top three with a best lap of 117.302.

Last year’s second place finisher in the Senior race, Chris Cook, also showed impressive pace with a 117.067mph.

Winner of the last six IRRC Superbike rounds, Laurent Hoffman, was the fastest newcomer with a lap of 113.613.

Frenchman Gabriel Pons clocked a lap of 111.424mph, good enough for 15th overall and the second fastest newcomer while Moritz Klaus’ lap of 111.086 made him the third fastest newcomer on the Supersports.


Thursday

Thursday’s contingency session was used so that Manx Grand Prix riders were able to get more track time under the belt ahead of the first race day on Saturday.

Sportbike and Junior Qualifying

During the afternoon’s Sportbike session, Johnny Stewart once again led from the front with a best lap time of 114.502, not quite good enough to top his best time of the week but to put him almost 20 seconds ahead of the sessions next best time.

It was 21-year-old Lee Hara who impressed to record a lap of 112.604 to slot into second place behind the flying Scotsman.

Liam Chawke notched the third best time of the session with a 112.355mph lap on top of the Chawkie Racing Kawasaki.

Newcomer Kevin Lavery once again impressed as the fastest debutant.

His best lap of 109.289mph was good enough for the eighth fastest man in the session.

Local pair Illiam Quayle and Kyle Casement were separated by a little over one second as their laps of 106.781mph and 106.672 were good enough for the second and third fastest newcomers.

Supersport and Junior Qualifying

In the afternoon’s Supersport session Johnny Stewart recorded his second 120mph lap of the week with a lap of 120.14mph best.

Lee Hara and Graham Mcaleese both recorded laps at over 117mph with Lee recording a best time of 117.569mph and Graham notching a 117.365mph lap.

Three men finished the session in the 116mph club, the first of these being Owen Monaghan with a 116.667mph lap.

Liam Chawke and local man Harley Rushton also recorded laps of 116.667mph and 116.269mph respectively.

Newcomer Laurent Hoffman continues to impress with a lap of 114.639 to notch the 11th best time overall.

Fellow debutants Gabriel Pons and Kevin Lavery were the second and third fastest newcomer times with laps of 113.141mph and 113.026mph.
