The Manx Grand Prix can confirm its commitment to retaining the 2026 Sportbike MGP regulations for the 2027 event, meaning both Supertwin and Sportbike machinery will continue to be eligible to compete at the Manx Grand Prix next year.
The confirmation follows the announcement that the Isle of Man TT will move to a fully Sportbike-based class for 2027, with Supertwin machinery no longer eligible for the Sportbike TT.
While the TT class will move exclusively to Sportbike machinery built to regulations aligned with the National Sportbike Championship from 2027, the Manx Grand Prix will take a different approach and retain the regulations used successfully at the 2026 event.
This means competitors with existing Supertwin machinery can continue to race those motorcycles on the Mountain Course at the 2027 Manx Grand Prix, alongside the growing number of new-generation Sportbike machines.
Under the regulations retained for 2027, Supertwins and Sportbikes will remain eligible for both the Sportbike Manx Grand Prix and Junior Manx Grand Prix races, just as they were in 2026.
The Manx Motor Cycle Club recognises the significant investment competitors and teams have made in their existing Supertwin machinery and believes retaining eligibility for these motorcycles provides stability and certainty for those considering competing at the Manx Grand Prix in 2027.
At the same time, the regulations allow the newer Sportbike category to continue developing at the MGP, providing a pathway for the latest generation of machines while maintaining an important place for the established Supertwin class.
The Manx Grand Prix has a proud history of providing accessible racing on the world-famous Mountain Course and of offering competitors the opportunity to develop their road racing careers. Maintaining the 2026 regulations for another year ensures competitors have a broad choice of suitable machinery and, importantly, allows those who already own competitive Supertwins to continue racing without the immediate need to invest in a replacement motorcycle.
For riders and teams currently considering their plans for next season, the message from the Manx Grand Prix is therefore clear:
Supertwins are staying for 2027.
Both Supertwin and Sportbike machinery will be welcomed back to the Manx Grand Prix, with the two types of machine once again eligible for the Sportbike and Junior MGP races.
