SENIOR SUCCESS FOR INGHAM?

Daniel Ingham made his Manx Grand Prix debut eight years ago and has finished in practically every position within the top six except the top spot. Will 2024 be the year the Leicestershire rider ends that streak and takes home the big one?

The now 31-year old is the only ‘Tommy Club’ member – an elite group of riders who have lapped the Mountain Course at more than 120mph at the Manx GP - in this year’s Senior race entry, recording his first 120mph+ lap, 120.469mph, in 2019.

He finished fifth in that year’s Senior race on his 750cc Suzuki with that lap remaining his quickest of the 37 and ¾-mile course but further 120mph+ laps came in both 2022 and 2023 when the race switched to Supersport rules.

Riding the Russell Brook/Brook Built 600cc R6 Yamaha, Ingham finished second to Stephen Smith in 2022 and third twelve months ago behind the Manx pairing of Joe Yeardsley and Marcus Simpson.

That added to his maiden podium finish of 2018 when he finished second in the opening Ultra-Lightweight race on his 400cc Honda.

Those results and lap speeds may give him the favourite tag for this year’s four-lap Mylchreests Senior race where he continues with the R6 Yamaha, this time for the Castings technology team.

It’s a team he knows well having finished sixth and seventh on their Aprilia RS660 in the last two editions of the Junior Manx Grand Prix. He continues with the Aprilia for this year’s MGP Supporters Club Junior race but it’s the Senior where he’ll fancy his chances the most.

Having already finished second and third, victory would complete the set and ensure his names goes in the record books forever alongside previous Senior race winners that include Geoff Duke, Phil Read, Geoff Johnson, Simon Beck, Ryan Farquhar, Michael Evans and Nathan Harrison.
