JOIN THE JACK WOOD MGP LEGACY LAP

Manx Grand Prix Fans are invited to join a mass ride-out around the Mountain Course on Sunday 25th August.

With hundreds of fans expected to take part, the spectator lap will head away from Pit Lane at 10:00am. Fans wishing to participate in the lap are asked to assemble in the Pit Lane from 9.30am.

The Manx Grand Prix Legacy Lap was first introduced as a feature of last year’s centenary celebrations and given the huge success, going forward it will now continue as part the MGP’s annual programme of events.

For many that participate in the lap it is a chance to remember the legacy of friends and riders that shared their passion for two-wheels and the Island’s world-famous Mountain Course.

This year’s lap will commemorate former competitor and Clerk of The Course, Jack Wood who passed away last December at the age of 94.

No one in the 100-year history of the Manx Grand Prix had a closer connection with the race meeting than Jack Wood.

He made his MGP debut aged 21 in 1950 and stayed closely involved as a rider, leading official and ultimately president of the Manx Motor Cycle Club until the turn of the century.

This year’s lap will head away from the TT Pit Lane at 10:00am under the instruction of the Manx Grand Prix Clerk of the Course, Gary Thompson MBE BEM, immediately after a one minute ‘Sound of Thunder’ which promises to be a spectacular moment for spectators and participants alike.

Riders that partake in the 2024 MGP Legacy Lap will receive a commemorative wrist band if they sign-on at the MGP Supporters Club marquee (located behind the Grandstand) until Saturday 24th August, which they are encouraged to do.
