GREENALL RACING OUT TO DEFEND RST CLASSIC SUPERBIKE TITLE

Returning champions Greenall Racing will once again field an impressive line-up of three riders for this year’s RST Classic Superbike Manx Grand Prix, as they look to retain the title they won twelve months ago with Rob Hodson.

Riding the team’s Kawasaki ZXR750, Hodson claimed the honours last year after a thrilling battle with Craig Neve, which ended when the Neve retired his Alasdair Cowan Racing Kawasaki at Greeba Castle on the final lap. Aided by a best lap of 125.935mph, Hodson eventually won by 15 seconds from team-mate Nathan Harrison.

The Wigan rider returns to defend his title on the back of an excellent campaign at this year’s Isle of Man TT where he took four top-ten finishes and broke the 130mph barrier for the first time.

Hodson is joined by the Irish pairing of Derek Sheils and Brian McCormack, with both having previously ridden for the team – Sheils, in particular, having enjoyed some fine moments on the Kawasaki, the highlight being an excellent second-place finish in the 2019 Classic Superbike Race at the Classic TT.

Sheils lapped at 124.494mph on his way to the runners-up position that day behind David Johnson, so clearly has the credentials to challenge for the race win around the Mountain Course and he’ll line up on an identical ZXR750 to Hodson.

McCormack, meanwhile, made his debut for Angus Greenall’s team at last year’s event and was running in a fine fifth place after a standing start lap of almost 124mph before being forced to retire on the third lap.

He’s back for another try but, unlike his team-mates, will ride the newer Kawasaki ZX7RR model which set the fastest lap of the 2022 event with Nathan Harrison on board.

The 4-lap RST Classic Superbike Race is scheduled to take place at 14:15 on Monday 28th August.
