INCIDENT AT BLACK DUB ENDS SESSION WITH RED FLAG
MGP DAY 2
Perfect conditions again for day 2 of the 2025 Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man. What looked like a fantastic opportunity for the Manx Grand Prix competitors to get some more laps in after a perfect first day of practice was unfortunately cut short on lap 1 of the Supersport session which got underway at 18:30.
First away from the start line was Jamie Williams, looking to build upon a really good first day of practice where he set some fantastic lap times straight from the get go. Chris Cook who led the opening day's practice with a lap in excess of 117mph was second away on the road behind Jamie, followed by Liam Chawke, Rad Hughes and Andy Farrell.
At 18:39 the session was stopped due to a red flag before all supersport competitors had left the start line, leaving a number of riders having to return to the holding area which included Pete Gibson, Dave Thomas and newcomers Tiziano Rosati and Nicolas Therouin.
The Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson MBE BEM confirmed a road sweeper was on the way to the scene and the session would resume at 19:45 for one lap only, for the Supertwin/Junior competitors, once the cleanup operation had been completed. A further announcement was made at 19:31 to confirm the cancellation of tonights session due to a reassessment of the road conditions, after the incident took longer to clear than anticipated. Competitors out on the course were brought back to the Grandstand under convoy by the Travelling Marshals.
The red flag at the Black Dub (9th Milestone) was the result of a crash involving Northern Ireland’s Andy McAllister (No. 32). He was taken to Noble’s Hospital for further assessment and, while reported to be conscious and talking, he is believed to have sustained arm injuries.
All eyes now turn to Day 3, with qualifying scheduled to resume at 18:30 and roads around the Mountain Course closing from 18:00. Tomorrow’s session will be crucial for Manx Grand Prix riders, as Wednesday is reserved exclusively for Classic TT practice and qualifying, meaning Manx Grand Prix competitors won’t return to the course until Thursday evening for a combined MGP/Classic TT session.
